Antiques Huntingin Normandy

Antiques, brocantes, vide-greniers

Lovers of antiques and bric-a-brac will delight at the variety of brocantes and vide-greniers in Normandy and just the place to find a few treasures.

There are also little known consignment stores in many of the larger towns usually hidden away and generally known only to the locals.

It is in the hidden corners of these consignment stores that some of the best bargains (furniture, militaria, tools, china, glassware, etc.) can be found and at very reasonable prices.

If you would like to take some of the guess work (and the driving) out of finding the best vide-greniers in Normandy, then why not join us on one of our 'Antiques Hunting' trips'.

If by chance you discover a real bargain that just won't fit in your car or carry on luggage, don't despair, we can arrange to collect and store your purchases at Normandy Getaways at Mis Harand B&B and even arrange delivery to your home or business address.

Having been raised around antiques and spending some time as a dealer in the US, I am always happy to offer an opinion or free advice regarding items found.

D-Day Site ToursFull and half day

D-Day sites near accommodation in Arromanches and Bayeux

Pegasus Bridge - June, 1944

In what was one of the most significant events of the 20th century, Operation Neptune, the largest seaborne and airborne operation in history, delivered onto the beaches and surrounding areas of Normandy, France, thousands of men as part of Operation Overlord.

D-Day, 6 June, 1944 marked the beginning of the end of World War Two in Europe with the establishment of a bridgehead in France through which millions of allied personnel and their associated materiel would pass during the next few months.

Today, Normandy's historic D-Day sites, many still bearing the scars of battle from 1944, are visited each year by millions of tourists of all nationalities.

In addition to the historic D-Day sites, there are many museums and monuments dedicated to the events of 1944 and of course, the very moving cemeteries where so many were laid to rest.

Normandy Getaways at Mis Harand offers guided tours of the British, US and Canadian sectors and a 'personalised' one-off tour service for guests at the B&B.

Walking and Cyclingin Normandy

The forest at Cerisy

A trail through Forêt-de-Cerisy

Walkers, hikers and cyclists will find themselves spoilt for choice, Normandy has some 3000km of trails and hundreds of kilometers of 'Greenlane' and road routes to choose from.

With the fabulous Forêt-de-Cerisy close by, guests can enjoy exploring the many trails within or take one of the planned routes through the surrounding area ranging in length and duration from 1hr/3.5km to 5hr/14km.

It will come as no surprise that cyclists in France are very well catered for with a multitude of road routes for hardened racers to special 'green way' routes designed for more relaxed family cycling.

After all, this is the home of the renowned Tour de France which often runs sections through parts of Normandy each year.

If you plan to explore the forest, we are happy to provide lifts to and from the outskirts and if you expect to be out all day, why not pre-order one of our 'Packed Lunches' to enjoy along the way.

Nature and PhotographyAnnual Competition

Birds and other animals are frequent visitors at chambre d'hote

If you love nature and wildlife, you are certain to be entertained by the vast variety of birds, insects and other creatures which frequent the gardens at the Bed and Breakfast.

During the summer, it's not hard to lose an hour or two watching the aerobatic Swallows as they dip, dive and swoop across the courtyard and lawns at high speed or the iridescent dragon flies as they buzz around the trees and the goldfish pond where you will occasionally see the greenest of frogs.

For photographers, the opportunities to snap some truly memorable images are endless, but not just the wildlife at Normandy Getaways at Mis Harand B&B, but everywhere in Normandy.

We love seeing photos that our guests have taken in Normandy, so don't forget to show us your favourites when you get back.

In fact, why not enter our annual competition with a chance to win a bottle of champagne for the best amateur photo snapped by one of our guests. Photos must have been taken by you in Normandy and will be featured in our 'Guest Images' section on this web site.

Contact us for more information about our competition.

Bungee jumping with 'AJ Hackett Normandie'

Bungee jumping in Normandy

For the truly adventurous, there is the well-known 'AJ Hackett Normandie' centre at Viaduc de la Souleuvre.

Here you can dive off the old 62m high viaduct and plummet earthward with a bit of elastic tied around your ankles or as the guy above did, run over the edge.

Definitely not for us, but if you give it a try, we'd love to see the photos when you get back to the B&B.

One ride that Chris has tried out, is the 'Flying Fox' which is loads of fun. Check out his video on Youtube by 'clicking here'. Let us know what you think.
